I spotted this lovely Mark 5 Ford Cortina on Burgh Quay in the city centre. From the Y reg British number plate I think it's a 1982 model, which was in fact the last year it was produced. Ford produced the first Cortina, the Mark 1 in 1962, followed by Mark's 2, 3, 4 and 5. They were all a very different design, apart from 4 and 5 which were quite similar. At that time Ford had a penchant for using Spanish words when naming their cars - Cortina, Fiesta, Granada, Mondeo, etc. In Germany the Cortina was actually called a Ford Taunus. Sadly after the Mark 5 the Cortina was discontinued and was replaced by the Sierra (another Spanish name).
My own favourite was the Mark 2, although I never had the pleasure of owning one. In it's day it was the wheels of choice for "boy-racers".

You know, I think my father actually owned the same model, in a brown colour, the german version Taunus in 1985.;)
But, he also owned the original Ford Cortina (white) in 1967, when I was born. An absolutely flashy sports car for that period of time and of course a source of eternal envy in a country filled with Ladas, Trabants and Skodas.;)
Zuzana
I remember a chocolatey brown Mk 5 Cortina from the 80's Zuzana, and I also have great memories of the Mark 1. I was working in a factory in London and my best friend was Pakistani. He had a beautiful old Mk 1, white with a green stripe in the middle and a souped up 2000cc engine, lots of clocks and of course a great(for the time) stereo. We used to drive around West London for hours listening to the music, admiring the sights - and the beautiful girls...
I can just imagine Zuzana and her sister sitting in the back of the Taunus as their Dad & Mum drove through Stare Mésto - a lot of envy glances I would say!
I think we had a Cortina at one point too, but how many Marks it had escapes me. :)
