Once Ireland was THE CELIC TIGER ... the fastest growing economy in Europe - now we are officially a basket case! In the good times we attracted workers from all over Europe and beyond, but now jobs are scarce, wages are lower and everybody is waiting for... tomorrow, a turnaround, economic recovery... (well, even Obama is waiting for signs of that!)
In the meantime life goes on and people find whatever work they can, so I admire this young Eastern European girl who sells the evening newspaper at the traffic lights every day. It's a dangerous job, probably not well paid, but she is trying her best - ten out of ten!!!

You echo what I hear my Irishman say. But I guess everyone is suffering. However, I have to say, Denmark is doing pretty well despite it all.
The picture is very poignant...
Hi:)
The economic slow down has taught every one to be resourceful and look for new avenues for earning a livelihood. I like the spirit of the girl. She is independent, smart and is making a great effort to earn some money. She will also learn many things in the process. She will learn the skills of salesmanship, learn to live frugally and develop a never say die attitude. I think people who moan and groan about the difficulties of life should take a lesson from the initiative and enterprise of this wonderful girl.
I do not know why you blanked out her eyes. She is a beautiful girl and a living example of resourcefulness. Every one should see her.
Lovely photo.
Have a nice day, my friend:)

Sometimes when you are taking a photograph of a person in a public place you have to ask yourself "does this person mind?" Because of the Internet that photograph will instantly travel the world. It is a dilemma. Sometimes I ask, sometimes I judge for myself. I felt maybe this beautiful young girl might not want to be portrayed doing this job, and that is why I blanked out her eyes. But I felt her story was important and I wanted to recognize her resourcefulness and her contribution to our economy.
But her job is certainly nothing to be ashamed of - every job is important, whether you are a teacher, a doctor or a road sweeper... It takes everybody's contribution to turn the wheel.
